RESUMO

The impact of climate change has malformed the world's ecosystem, thus making humans call for environmental protection. Climate change, the biggest trauma of the twenty-first century, has made humans switch towards natural consumption. In this regard, the growing phenomenon of industrialization has spurred consumers to invest more in ecological products. Consuming eco-friendly products has several benefits; however, countries are still unable to satisfy the consumer's concern for the environment. The current study presents literature on environmental concerns, psychological well-being, willingness to pay for pro-environmental products, pro-environmental self-identity, and pro-environmental consumer behavior, which are required to ensure the consumer's organic behavior. The research used a questionnaire-driven methodology to gather data from 379 participants. Data analysis was conducted using statistical software packages, specifically SPSS (Version: 4.1.0.0). The suitability of the measurement model was evaluated through structural equation modeling (SEM), which was performed utilizing the SmartPLS. According to the research findings, there is a positive relationship between variables in the study, and individuals with greater levels of psychological well-being are more likely to engage in behaviors that promote sustainable consumption. In order to foster more sustainable consumption patterns in society, policymakers, marketers, and educators may find these findings to be valuable insights. As a result of its empirical exploration of these relationships, the study contributes to the growing body of literature on environmental psychology and sustainable marketing, emphasizing the important role psychological factors play in promoting a greener environment.

RESUMO

Worldwide economies are determined to achieve sustainable development. In this pursuit, the role of SMEs and ICT has emerged as an inevitable choice for sustainable development. The literature on the impact of SMEs and ICT on sustainable development, particularly in China's context, is scarce. Therefore, the analysis aims to investigate the impact of SMEs and ICT on sustainable development in China for the period of 1998-2020. We have applied the ARDL model for empirical analysis. The short and long-run estimates attached to SMEs are significant and positive, confirming that SMEs help to achieve sustainable development. Similarly, the estimates attached to ICT are positive and significant both in the short and long run, confirming the beneficial role of ICT in achieving sustainable development. The estimates attached to institutional quality and R&D control variables are positive and significant in the long run, but only R&D estimates are significant in the short run. In particular, digitalization and SMEs development provide a win-win situation for China to mitigate climate change in the long run and become more environmentally sustainable.

RESUMO

Innovation is a vital element of an organization's success. Companies must implement efficient, innovative plans and policies to consistently develop novel innovations. Based on the theory of planned behavior, the current framework formulated the idea of entrepreneurial education, entrepreneurial mindset, and technological knowledge with entrepreneurial intention in the healthcare industry. Further, this concept comprises the mediating role of innovative work behavior and the moderating effect of entrepreneurial motivation between constructs. The study adopted a quantitative method and collected data from 529 employees working in healthcare organizations (e.g., medical services, manufacturing medical equipment, and drugs/Pharmaceutical companies). The study's findings revealed that entrepreneurial education, entrepreneurial mindset, and technological knowledge positively and significantly affect entrepreneurial intention. The mediation results show that innovative work behavior significantly affects other constructs, and entrepreneurial motivation has a significant moderating effect. The study highlighted the notable transformations in the healthcare industry by proposing the need for relevant entrepreneurial education, traits, and characteristics in accelerating business activities. The study found a link between entrepreneurial education, mindset, technological knowledge, and entrepreneurial intention. This study is helpful for managers and practitioners in executing effective strategies for innovation in healthcare companies.

RESUMO

In the twenty-first century, the surge in natural resource consumption and climate change has necessitated stringent measures to ensure ecological integrity and corporate sustainability. Organizations are increasingly adopting green practices, including green human resource management (HRM), green corporate social responsibility (CSR), and the promotion of green firms' image. These strategies are central to fostering sustainable performance and responsible environmental stewardship. These constructs have also elevated consumers' satisfaction and trust in firms' ecological practices. This study employs a quantitative research approach and utilizes convenient sampling methods to explore the ecosystem within the hospitality sector of China. A survey was conducted among middle- and senior-level managers working in top 3-, 4-, and 5-star hotels. The study results demonstrate that green notions are the key to a corporate's sustainable performance. The study reveals that firms' eco-friendly motive ensures the greening of the hotel industry due to their eco-friendly motive. Therefore, companies should be responsible for the environment. They should ensure the implementation of green sustainable practices toward achieving corporate performance.

RESUMO

In the current era of business, environmental sustainability has emerged as an issue of critical relevance. The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between environmental leadership and environmental learning and its impact on the organization's performance. This research contributes to the existing body of knowledge by identifying the primary characteristics that help companies enhance their performance. Using a convenience sample approach, data was obtained from 417 respondents working in the construction industry. For direct and indirect hypothesis testing, we used the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and structural equation modelling (SEM). According to the study's findings, environmental leadership (EL) and environmental knowledge learning (EKL) significantly influence environmental passion (EP), green corporate social responsibility (CSR), and company performance. The link between EL, EKL, and firm performance (FP) is mediated by EP. The study's results indicate that green CSR significantly moderates the relationship between EP and firm performance. The study findings benefit business managers, policymakers, and government institutions.

RESUMO

The unprecedented economic growth in recent decades has cultivated the exploitation of natural resources and over-consumption, leading to ecological deterioration and sustainability. The ever-increasing consumption in developing countries is creating a significant environmental strain. Thus, the industry and consumers' environmental issues and their harmful effects on human health have led to concerns among researchers, scientists, academic communities, and policymakers. The present work examines the impact of different consumption value factors on sustainable consumption behavior concerning consumer choice in Pakistan and China. A cross-sectional study is conducted, and data are collected through a primary source questionnaire. A sample of 431 respondents is chosen from different cities in Pakistan, and a sample of 342 respondents is selected from China. Estimation techniques like descriptive statistics, frequency distribution, multicollinearity, R square, independent sample t-test, the coefficient of correlation, and regression analysis are used for the data analysis. The comparative results show that knowledge values (KVs) and emotional values (EMVs) significantly influence the choice behavior of respondents toward environmentally friendly products both in Pakistan and China. In contrast, social values (SVs) and conditional values (CVs) show insignificant influence. Furthermore, functional values (FVs) are significant in Pakistan while insignificant in the context of China, and environmental values (EVs) are significant in China although insignificant in Pakistan with regard to sustainable consumption behavior.

RESUMO

Purpose: This study aims to improve employees' job performance during COVID-19 pandemic circumstances and demonstrates the impact of COVID-19 fear on hospitality employees' job performance under the mediating role of job insecurity changes and job loss insecurity. Methods: The study adopts a quantitative approach, and data were accumulated through a structured questionnaire. In total, 509 valid questionnaires were received from employees working in Pakistan's hospitality sector. A structural equation model using Smart-PLS software was used to analyze the collected data from the respondents. Results: The results have identified that COVID-19 fear has a positive and significant influence on job insecurity changes, job loss insecurity, and a negative and significant relationship with job performance. The mediating relationship of job insecurity changes and job loss insecurity negatively significantly influence job performance. Additionally, results indicate a significant relationship between the moderating effect of the COVID-19 vaccines and job insecurity changes, job loss insecurity, and job performance. Conclusion: The study revealed that employees who perceived their jobs to be insecure during the COVID-19 pandemic tried to cope with the situation, feel healthy, and perform well in their job after getting vaccinated. The study's findings recommend modifying the employees' working pattern for organizations. This study enhances the existing literature on the COVID-19 crisis in Pakistan's hospitality industry. In particular, this study is a novel addition to academia that highlights the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the work performance of front desk employees in the hotel and tourism industry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The ravages of COVID-19 have created a worldwide emergency in healthcare units. Under these circumstances, the perception of an infection threat is primarily affecting the employees' performance in reducing contagion effects. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to develop substantial measures of support for healthcare employees to maintain adequacy in job performance. METHODS: Data were collected from state-owned hospitals in Pakistan to test the current study's proposed model. We applied structural equation modeling through a partial least square regression in addition to the blindfolding approach in Smart-PLS. Confirmatory factor analysis was also employed to measure the study's validity. RESULTS: The current study's findings show that the perception of a threat from COVID-19 and the inadequate protective measures have influenced frontline healthcare workers' performance levels. The mediating path of depression symptoms indicated the threat of COVID-19 and the absence of protective measures as potential determinants of poor performance. However, an employee's ability to feel obligated toward their job duties reduces the effect of depression on employee performance. CONCLUSION: The current model highlights an individual's feelings of obligation to maintain their performance level by minimizing the effect of depression and professional anxiety. The present study extensively described the psychological constraints healthcare workers are facing during the current pandemic. Current research addressing healthcare employees' mental health is vital for better prevention and control during pandemic circumstances. The current study's findings extend the emerging understanding of employee psychology in such circumstances.

RESUMO

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is continuing to have severe effects on tourism-related industries, as safety precautions have become essential to follow. Based on this, this study aims to explore the role of perceptions of the tourist of safety in tourism destination choice with the mediating effect of tourist trust (TT) in the context of the Chinese tourism sector. In addition, this study considers improvements to safety measures for sustainable tourism and the benefits of the technology transformation in the travel industry because of COVID-19. For this study, a quantitative approach was used, and data were collected through convenient sampling. The questionnaire was measured on a 5-point Likert scale, and a cross-sectional approach was adopted for data analysis. The findings of this study show that the effect of the perceived safety of the social environment, perceived safety of facility and equipment elements, perceived safety of human elements, perceived safety of management elements, and perceived safety of natural environments is significant and positive on the tourist destination choice (TDC). In addition, TT is a significant mediator between these elements and TDC. Furthermore, this study concluded that COVID-19 had increased travel anxiety, with particularly negative effects on the Chinese tourism sector, but that the adoption of perceived safety measures could be beneficial in regaining TT for traveling, eventually giving tourists confidence in choosing their traveling destination.

RESUMO

The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has undoubtedly created immense health problems in the global healthcare sector. Apart from its impact on physical health, it has devastatingly affected the psychological well-being of individuals. Based on Affective Events Theory (AET), the current study aims to contemplate the relationship between Fear of COVID-19 (CVF), psychological concerns (PC), and financial concerns (FC) while considering the impact on the healthcare employees' job performance (JP). Moreover, this study investigates the mediating role of job anxiety (ANX), stress (ST), and depression (DEP). The data were collected through an online structured questionnaire (Google Forms) from 489 employees working in the healthcare centers of Pakistan. The structured equation modeling (partial least square) approach is adopted for data analysis. The study results showed that Fear of COVID-19, psychological and financial concerns positively and significantly affect healthcare workers' job performance. Depression, anxiety, and stress mediated the relationship between Fear of COVID-19, psychological concerns, financial concerns, and job performance. The study theoretically and practically contributes to the existing literature on psychological and mental health by providing a better understanding of the individual variables that affect employees' job performance.

RESUMO

Organizational risks are present in any activity, so it is important to manage them properly. The jobs are dynamic and involve a series of processes and activities. The entire human resource is exposed to several risks. If these risks are approached correctly, the organizational capacity to achieve its objectives and vision will increase considerably. This paper aims to investigate the relationships between work accidents (fatal and non-fatal) and the causes that contribute to their occurrence (causes dependent on the executor, causes dependent on the means of production, workload-dependent causes, and work-dependent causes-the work environment). The augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test is employed to check the data stationarity series, while the Johansen test determines the cointegration relation of variables. The data have been collected from Romanian organizations. The vector error correction model (VECM) and Granger causality test are applied for speed of adjustment, nature, and direction of variables' relationship. This research demonstrated that both data series are free from the unit-root problem at first difference. The lag length criterions select the third lag for model fitness, and Johansen cointegration declares that variables are cointegrated for the long term. The vector error correction model shows the speed of adjustment from the short to the long run is 83.35% and 42.60% for work and fatal accidents. The study results show that fatal accidents have a series relationship with selected cases for the short run and have a long-run relationship with the means of production. Fatal accidents are directly related to means of production. Fatal accidents are not designed by executors, workload-dependent causes, or work environments in the short run. Fatal accidents are directly related to the means of production and sudden incidents happening in the long run. Fatal accidents are considered by executors, workload-dependent causes, or work environments in the short run. In the long run, fatal accidents are directly related to the means of production and sudden incidents happening.

RESUMO

The social cognitive theory emphasizes the risk-taking behavior of an entrepreneur, which leads him to make the right decisions. In this regard, this study formulates the concept of the cognitive CEO through the DAE statistical technique. Specifically, CEO attributes such as CEO age, CEO compensation, CEO tenure, goodwill, and the number of CEO-attended meetings are used as inputs that influence the intangible assets, the output. Chinese SMEs have been selected for empirical analysis for the years 2014-2018. The empirical results reveal that having a cognitive CEO augmented corporate sustainability, while agency cost and the number of supervisors strongly diminished corporate sustainability. Meanwhile, high earnings per share and high total assets are vehicles for maintaining the sustainable growth of firms. Additionally, it is indicated that firms with a loan burden cannot maintain sustainable corporate growth. Lastly, the execution of 2SLS and GMM instrumental regressions authenticate the veracity of results.

RESUMO

One aspect of entrepreneurship psychology also clarifies individual characteristics. Drawing from entrepreneurship psychology, the concept of a cognitive CEO has been formulated using the DAE statistical technique. The study elucidates that cognitive CEOs not only boost SME performance but also invigorate CSR activity. Data for listed SMEs for the years 2016-2018 are analyzed through the panel regression technique. Significantly, the study demonstrates that CEO age is positively interlinked with the growth and CSR activity of the firm. Moreover, the empirical underpinning of the results also reveals that state-owned enterprises and firms with high total assets prefer cognitive CEOs, who accelerate the firm's value and invigorate CSR activity. The number of independent directors is analyzed as a moderator and is concluded to be an intensifier for both SME growth and CSR activity. Finally, 2SLS instrumental panel regression is used to validate the veracity of the empirical results.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogues are now widely used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Many binding sites for GLP-1 have been demonstrated in the specific tissue compartments of organs in-cluding the brain and thyroid. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of exenatide treatment on thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroid volume in diabetic patients without thyroid disease. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 46 diabetic patients without thyroid disease who were receiving exenatide treatment. Comparisons were made of total thyroid volume and serum concentrations of TSH at baseline and after 6 months of follow-up. RESULTS: Of the 46 patients, 13 were excluded from the study, as they were unable to complete the treatment or left the follow-up process. After 6 months of exenatide treatment, the serum TSH concentration decreased significantly (from 2.3 [0.7-5.4] to 1.8 mIU/L [0.3-4.2], p= 0.007). There were no significant differences in thyroid volume (11.6 ± 9.0 vs. 12.1 ± 8.8 cm3, p = 0.19), free thyroxine (fT4), free tri-iodothyronine (fT3), and calcitonin levels before and after treatment. Thyroid volume was not affected by decreased TSH level (p:= 0.141) or a reduction in body mass index (BMI) (p > 0.05), and no correlation was detected between variation in TSH level and change in BMI (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Exenatide treatment for 6 months significantly decreased serum TSH concentration but did not affect thyroid volume in diabetic patients without thyroid disease.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of hyperprolactinemia on body fat, insulin sensitivity, inflammatory markers, and cardiovascular risk in patients with prolactinoma. METHODS: The study included 35 untreated hyperprolactinemic patients with pituitary adenomas, and 36 age-, gender-, and body mass index (BMI)-matched healthy controls without any known disease. Serum glucose, insulin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR, lipid profile, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and heart-type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP) levels were measured. Waist and hip circumference (WC and HC) were measured in all the participants. The body fat percentage was measured, and the visceral fat and abdominal fat percentages were measured via bioelectrical impedance (BIA). In addition, carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) was measured using high-resolution B-mode ultrasound. RESULTS: The serum glucose level, HOMA-IR, triglyceride level, and SC were significantly higher in the patient group than in the control group. The hs-CRP level and CIMT were significantly higher in the hyperprolactinemic patients. Visceral and truncal fat percentages were significantly higher in the patients with prolactinoma. H-FABP levels were similar in the 2 groups, and there was a positive correlation between the prolactin (PRL) and H-FABP protein levels. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the present findings, hyperprolactinemia is associated with preclinical atherosclerosis and metabolic abnormalities. Patients with hyperprolactinemia might experience cardiovascular disease in the long term. Metabolic control should be achieved in addition to the control of hyperprolactinemia in the clinical management of patients diagnosed with prolactinoma.
